Edizioni Spartaco is a little indipendent publisher, founded in 1995 by four associates.
In 2003 our perspective changed and we decided to enter the national market, by creating two new series: in the first (“La campana”) we publish essays about history of Southern Italy. The second series (“Il risveglio”) contains historical-political books of libertarian inspiration, welcoming reflections and experiences regarding power and the various ways to oppose it and to reach autonomy, with a critical, un-authoritarian and un-rhetorical attitude.

The main characteristic of this series is the complete indipendence from the literary genre: in this series, we have political pamphlets, classical works of anarchical thought, journalistic writings and articles, reportages, satires and travel accounts. Other feature of this series is the “combined” presence - even in the same book, as author and editor or translator - of important writers (such as Dos Passos, Tolstoj, Twain, Silone, Levi, Malatesta and Lafargue), young Italian writers and scholars (such as Luca Rossomando and Matteo Melchiorre) in that which we call “intergenerational agreement”. In this series we have as well a little “library” of Feminism (Maria Lacerda, Flora Tristan, Mary Wollstonecraft, Jane Addams, Vera Brittain, Marie Louise Berneri, Malwida von Meysenbug).

In 2005 we have created a series of foreign fiction, “Dissensi”: the “dissents” we want to deal with are political dissents, wherever they show and in whatever regime (democratic, too) they find reason to exist, but also social or relational dissents (as reaction to conformism, family dissents, etc.).
Now, the two series of essays and non-fiction come together in a new series, with a new format and a new graphic structure. Our selection is still oriented to foreign authors, but we will keep on presenting Italian young and talented writer of non-fiction, and we are going to do the same in the fiction series, too.
